807 Northwest Network

807-City Freenet Incorporated, operating as 807 Northwest Network, is a not-for-profit organization of public and private sector partners. Our main objective is to create a world class broadband telecommunication infrastructure in Northwestern Ontario. Our vendor of record Norwest ConX (Thunder Bay Municipal Telephone, Dryden Municipal Telephone and Kenora Municipal Telephone) will be responsible for the actual construction of the network.

Telecommunications is the highway of the future. It will help organizations and community partners in all sectors to provide needed services and respond to their customers and clients more effectively. The availability of leading edge broadband services can attract new business to the area. Advanced, cost-effective broadband telecommunications can facilitate growth and improve the competitiveness of existing local businesses. Larger centres in Canada currently have excellent broadband infrastructures; however it is in the smaller communities, such as those found in Northwestern Ontario, where the greatest gap in the high tech infrastructure occurs.

To take advantage of the opportunities broadband can bring to a community, one group cannot act alone. The 807 Northwest Network community based partnerships will reduce the overall cost for equipment, maintenance and bandwidth prices. It is also through partnerships that we can ensure on-going excellence in broadband telecommunications.

807 Northwest Network, along with its partners throughout Northwestern Ontario, has received support from various funding agencies. Our vendors of record are currently implementing a world class broadband telecommunication infrastructure in Northwestern Ontario. This broadband network will interconnect and be interoperable with existing and proposed global networks. The system is also capable of integrating with other provincial and federal telecommunications initiatives in areas such as health, education and other facets of the broader public sector.
